FLAMBOYANT American boxing promoter Don "Mr 1000 Volts" King and Africa's most successful promoter Branco Milenkovic will clash for the right to stage an IBF mandatory bantamweight title eliminator.
The fight will feature King's fighter Ghanaian Joseph "King Kong" Agbeko and Milenkovic's charge Vus'Umuzi "Marvellous" Malinga.
Agbeko is rated third while Malinga from Ekurhuleni is placed eighth. The IBF hierarchy has given King and Milenkovic until tomorrow to reach an agreement or face the purse bid. Milenkovic said the bout should take place in SA.
"It will make no sense to any network broadcaster internationally to stage such a fight between two Africans in America," Milenkovic said yesterday.
"I am hoping to reach an agreement with King but having said that I want to emphasise that I will go all the way with the purse bid because I want to present this fight here in Johannesburg."
The winner between Agbeko and Malinga will become the IBF's No 1 mandatory challenger to Johnny Perez. The Colombian won the title from Agbeko in Las Vegas on October 1.
Perez had earned the right to challenge Agbeko in May after plastering Silence Mabuza to the canvas in last minute of the 12 rounds for the title eliminator.
Mabuza was way ahead on all three judges' scorecards. That fight was presented by Milenkovic in Springs on May 28.
Milenkovic added that tomorrow at the IBF's offices in New Jersey, New York, at 7pm, his representatives will be involved in two other purse bids.
One will be for the IBF mini flyweight championship between Mexican Raul Garcia and Nkosinathi "Mabhere" Joyi, and the other the IBF flyweight mandatory eliminator between Filipino Richard Garcia and Zolani "Last Born" Tete.
Milenkovic said the winner between Tete, who is rated eighth, and 10th-placed Garcia, will automatically become the mandatory challenger for his other charge, recently crowned IBF flyweight holder Moruti "Baby Face" Mthalane.
Mthalane outboxed Mexican Julio Cesar Miranda throughout 12 rounds at Wembley Arena, south of Johannesburg, to earn a lopsided points win for the vacant title on November 20 last year. That fight was also presented by Milenkovic.
