FRANKLIN Cale, the new blue-eyed boy at Mamelodi Sundowns, is raring to have a go at Kaizer Chiefs tomorrow afternoon and that should be a disconcerting thought for those associated with Amakhosi.
After all, Cale has been at his most devastating form when facing Chiefs, with one of his best strikes in recent memory handing former club Ajax Cape Town the ticket to the MTN8 final a few months ago.
With his rumoured R5million move to Chloorkop from Ajax completed, Cale could not have arrived at a better time, with Hristo Stoichkov needing all the ammunition he can lay his hands on, as Downs prepare to cause an upset by wresting the championship from homeboys SuperSport United.
"I just love playing against Chiefs," Cale said.
"I was surprised Sundowns were interested in me. I just want to show what I am capable of doing on the field."
Stoichkov has already moaned about this season's fixtures, which has teams playing three matches a week, and has accused the PSL of disrespecting the players and the clubs.
But all thoughts of fatigue will be forgotten tomorrow, as Stoichkov and his Eastern European counterpart Vladimir Vermezovic tackle each other in this potentially explosive Absa Premiership match at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.
Downs have had a remarkable turnaround in fortunes, particularly with Koketso Mmotong - who has been on the fringes for ages - marking his return to full reckoning with the winner against Maritzburg on Wednesday.
On the other hand Abia Nale's season at Kaizer Chiefs has been shaping up brilliantly and while he acknowledged the huge importance of this game , he played down the pressure factor.
"There is nothing special really - we always prepare the same for every team, big or small. There is always commitment and hard work, which has started to pay now. I do not know about Sundowns but mentally we are ready," Nale said.
Missing from the Amakhosi line-up will be Jimmy Jambo, while Thabang Rooi is in doubt. The good news for Chiefs is the return of Reneilwe Letsholonyane for this encounter, which kicks off at 3.30pm.
l SuperSport United face Mpumalanga Black Aces at Loftus Stadium tomorrow. Kickoff is at 8.15pm.
