ROOKIES Mpumalanga Black Aces shocked Orlando Pirates with an 85th minute equaliser at Puma Stadium in Witbank last night.
Pirates had held a 1-0 lead from the 13th minute when Aces Oscar Ramogoadi fumbled a cross from Happy Jele. The unmarked Bennet Chenene easily tapped home.
Mpho Maleka stunned Pirates with a headed goal after a cross by Jacob Machaka to make the final score 1-1.
Meanwhile Free State Stars registered their first win under coach Gordon Igesund when they beat Lamontville Golden Arrows 1-0 in an evenly contested match at Chatsworth Stadium in Durban.
Stars had gone four matches without a win under Igesund after the former Maritzburg United coach took over the reins last month. The visitors made their intentions of winning the match clear as early as the first minute when Tebello Mofokeng's attempt came off the upright with goalie Thulasizwe Khuzwayo beaten.
Stars continued to pile the pressure on Arrows and they won a free-kick 35m out in the 33rd minute.
Kingston Nkhatha unleashed a scorcher from the resultant free-kick to beat a befuddled Khuzwayo.
The strike should be a contender for goal of the season.
Eight minutes later Abafana Bes'thende, who were under pressure to win at home, conjured up some neat passes involving Njabulo Manqana, Thamsanqa Gabuza and Richard Henyekane. The latter came close to scoring after beating goalie Kennedy Mweene, but his goal-bound effort was cleared off the line by defender Martin Carelse.
