A POLYGAMIST businessman has been found guilty of killing his pregnant first wife and then attempting to murder his second wife.
First Jabulani Ndlovu shot Phindile Dlamini and disposed of her body. Fourteen days later, he shot Tholakele Ngubane while they were having sex.
Ngubane earlier told the court: "I had to flee the house naked. I was lucky to escape with my life. Neighbours helped to hide me.
"We were having sex when he pulled a gun and shot me through the shoulder. He had been aggressive throughout the day that he had even had sex with me in his car earlier."
Ndlovu's employee, Mzwenduku Ngubane, who appeared with him, was found guilty of being an accessory after the fact to murder. He had helped his boss dispose of Dlamini's body and kept quiet about the killing.
Judge Margaret Victor is expected to sentence the two men tomorrow in the Vereeniging circuit court.
Ndlovu was also found guilty of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
He shot and killed Dlamini who was seven months pregnant with his second child in their house in Orange Farm in the Vaal on June 11 2008. He shot her twice in the upper body. Together with Ngubane they loaded her body into his car and dumped it in an open veld.
They fetched the body the following day and drove to a municipal dumping site where they left it.
On June 25 2008 Ndlovu fetched his second wife from her flat in Johannesburg and drove with her to his Orange Farm home.
They went into the bedroom to have sex. It was while they were busy that Ndlovu produced a firearm and shot her.
She had told the court that she blindly pushed him away and they fell. She managed to rush to the door and escaped naked into the night.
"A neighbour helped me to hide and gave me clothes. He organised an ambulance to take me to hospital," she said.
At the time when she was shot, Tholakele had a protection order against Ndlovu. Tholakele testified that days before she was shot Dlamini had warned her that Ndlovu wanted to kill her.
Passing judgment Victor said Ngubane was an accessory after the fact to murder.
"After Dlamini was killed you failed to report the matter to the police. Alternatively you also failed to take the stand during the trial and explain why you helped Ndlovu to dispose of Dlamini's body," said Victor.
During the trial Ndlovu told the court that he owned a block of flats in Johannesburg and eight minibus taxis and Ngubane was his employee.
