THE draw for the 2009 Metropolitan Cosafa Under-20 Championship was held in Johannesburg yesterday and 13 teams in four groups will compete in the yearly showpiece.
The tournament, scheduled for Eldorado Park, Meadowlands and Dobsonville stadiums, will take place from December 6 to December 15.
Safa president Kirsten Nematandani said the tournament was important for football development.
"If we want to make a difference in football, I believe we must go back to basics. There was a time when things were going our way in football and we folded our arms, but we have learnt our lesson. We must start at schools because school sports is the starting point for development," Nematandani said.
The teams will be divided into two groups. Defending champions South Africa will be guided by Maqsood Chenia who will be assisted by Winnerspark coach Solly Luvhengo.
