The Department of Science and Technology's campaign to strengthen public understanding of the importance of indigenous knowledge systems is under way in Polokwane.

The conference, with the theme "Indigenous ways of knowing work", is also set to unearth economic opportunities in indigenous knowledge.

The event will demonstrate the richness in biodiversity and the use of medicinal plants, as well as methods of propagating common medicinal plants found only in Limpopo.

Science and Technology Minister Naledi Pandor told delegates that the conference would reinforce a shared vision for indigenous knowledge.
