THE National Education, Health and Allied Workers Union (Nehawu) says it intends to mobilise its members against the move by new University of the Free State (UFS) rector Jonathan Jansen to hand over cash to a group of black workers who were racially abused by four white students last year.
This after Jansen told the weekend press that he was pulling UFS out of bringing charges against former students Johnny Roberts, RC Malherbe, Danie Grobler and Schalk van der Merwe.
The four former students were caught on video forcing the cleaning staff to drink their urine.
Jansen confirmed to Sowetan yesterday that he was in negotiations with the workers over reparations for damage to their dignity.
But Nehawu Free State secretary Bereng Soke said: "We can't compromise the dignity of our members and convert that into a cash value where people will be compensated.
"There is no kind of compensation for what happened."
