CELEBRATED South African-born author Gillian Slovo's launch in SA today of her new book, Every Secret Thing, promises to cause interest in literary circles.
Slovo is the daughter of one of South Africa's high-profile political families - the late politician Joe Slovo and journalist, academic and activist Ruth First.
The launch at Xarra Books in Newtown is by invitation only.
The British Council, who are bringing Slovo to SA from London, feared there would be too many people for the venue, a source said.
"They have insisted that the occasion should be by invitation only, and the numbers should not exceed 100 people."
Slovo is the author of 11 novels. Red Dust was awarded the RFI Témoin du Monde prize in France and made into a film starring Hilary Swank and Chewetel Ejiofor.
In this best-selling family memoir, Every Secret Thing, Slovo recalls the extraordinary events that surrounded her family's persecution and exile and reconstructs the truth of her parents' relationship and her own turbulent childhood.
