THERE cannot be two more unpredictable teams in world cricket than Pakistan and the West Indies.
Pakistan, though they are laden with stars, because you never know how focused they are when they take to the field. The West Indies because they are going through a major rebuilding phase due to the strike by leading players in the Caribbean.
It's probably quite appropriate they meet in the opening match of Group A of the ICC Champions Trophy at the Wanderers in Johannesburg today with the losers likely to be taking an early flight home after the round-robin stage.
Pakistan will be buoyed by the fact that they are the holders of the T20 World Cup and they are definitely a confidence team.
If the West Indies can make inroads early through the bowling of Gavin Tonge and Kemar Roach and put the Pakistan batsmen on the back foot, an upset could be on the cards. Mind you, looking at the Windies performance last Friday against the Proteas, that looks highly unlikely.
Pakistan, with batsmen of the calibre of Shahid "Boom Boom" Afridi, captain Younis Khan and Shoaib Malik should prove too experienced and powerful for a Windies team short on experience and confidence.
l The match will be beamed live on SABC3 and SuperSport 2, starting at 2.30pm.
