AT least six district municipalities have been declared disaster areas in Eastern Cape due to the drought, Water and Environmental Affairs Minister Buyelwa Sonjica said yesterday.

AT least six district municipalities have been declared disaster areas in Eastern Cape due to the drought, Water and Environmental Affairs Minister Buyelwa Sonjica said yesterday.

Sonjica told an indaba in Jeffreys Bay, Eastern Cape, that some areas were seriously affected by drought.

"The water supply has affected the areas negatively and the situation cannot be allowed," she said.

Department spokesperson Sputnik Ratau said there was a lack of drinking water and infrastructure. - Sapa
