A new name for a primary school in GaMatlala outside Polokwane has angered the community.
Yesterday the community called for the expulsion of the principal for renaming the school without consulting them.
Community members barricaded the school's entrance and disrupted lessons in protest against the new name.
The principal, Annikie Manamela, is accused of changing the school's name from Ratshipole to Sediba-Sephal without consultation .
Community spokesperson Phillip Manamela said they only came to know about the school's new name when they saw it on their children' s progress reports for the first quarter.
Provincial education department spokesperson Ndo Mangala said that after all processes had been undertaken, the new name and reasons for the change should then be forwarded to the head of the department for approval.
