They did brilliantly on their tour of New Zealand two months ago, now the national Under-21 netball team will hold another training camp this weekend.

The team, coached by Dudu Msane, won nine of their 10 matches in New Zealand.

The only game they lost was against world champions New Zealand, as they swept the likes of Samoa, Fiji and the Cook Islands aside.

This tour was organised to get the players used to conditions in the area where the World Under-21 Championships will be held in August.

As part of the weekend's training camp, the team will play National Netball League side North West Unicorns.

This will be followed by a match next month against a team from the Australian Institute of Sports.

"To keep the momentum going, we have got to have a string of matches for the team. We will therefore have matches each month," Msane said.

Msane's team is ranked fifth in the world - New Zealand occupies first position - a spot she is determined to improve on in the Cook Islands.

"We want to fight to at least be in the quarterfinals, which would give us a fighting chance for a medal," she said.

Part of fine-tuning this team and the game plan includes the improvement of the overall goal average per shooter.

Presently the team has four goal shooters - Nadia Uys, Mareliese Linder, Anne-Marie Frost and Kay Barron.
