Since time immemorial, green tea has been made to be so potent it could raise the dead. Green tea will not raise the dead, nor will it cure incurable diseases, but it's so potent in its health benefits that it should be made secondary to water in all households. Below are the health benefits most people claim it possesses.
However, I must announce my own health benefits shared among the people who have used the herb since it was introduced to South Africans many years ago:
l It reduces the growth of cancer.
Catechin is said to be effective in reducing the growth of cancer.
l Practising good oral hygiene.
Catechin suppresses the formation of plaque by cariogenic bacteria and also kills the bacteria. It also kills other bacteria that cause bad breath. Green tea contains natural fluorine which is said to prevent cavities.
l Prevents the increase of cholesterol.
Catechin prevents the excessive build-up of blood cholesterol.
l Controlling high blood pressure.
Most high blood sufferers use green tea and claim catechin suppresses production of angiotensin II, which leads to high blood pressure.
l Lowering blood sugar.
Catechin and polysaccharides are effective in lowering blood sugar.
l Slowing the ageing process.
Consuming agents that are effective antioxidants slow the ageing process. Green tea is rich in vitamin E, which works as an antioxidant. Catechin is also a strong antioxidant.
