An Eldorado Park man was arrested on Monday last week for stealing a crate of bread. Arresting officer Inspector Ferdinand van Zyl said the man then asked him to make a phone call so he could organise R5000 for him.
Van Zyl said he played along but informed the police commissioner about the trap he had laid for the man and his friends who were to bring the money.
"They arrived with the money and I immediately told them that they were under arrest for bribing a police officer." However, the men had also laid a trap of their own. "About two minutes later, officers from the Organised Crime Unit arrived to arrest me for bribery."
Berry Styne appeared in court last week and will appear again this week.
