Adjudication for the 2008-2009 edition of the Johannesburg Literary Festival takes place in Vrededorp, Gauteng.
Sowetan, in collaboration with the City of Joburg's Library and Information Services, hosts the festival tomorrow. It is part of the youth development activities of the Aggrey Klaaste Nation Building Foundation and is managed by wRite Associates.
JoLife, as the festival is also known, gives youth a chance to showcase their literary capabilities and to enhance their literary knowledge.
What stands participants in good stead is visiting local libraries to get entry forms and to seek material from which to refer to enhance their entries.
For the last two years the theme for the short stories and poetry competitions was Pride in Yourself. It was inspired by the life and work of black consciousness icon Steve Biko. The other theme was inspired by Nigerian author Chinua Achebe's work, Things Fall Apart. - Victor Mecoamere
