dance new year in

Louise McAuliffe

A special edition of Strictly Come Dancing, pitting some of South Africa's biggest television stars against each other, will usher in the new year in true ballroom style.

Celebrities and their professional dance partners will be competing across various ballroom and Latin American styles in this once-off dancing spectacular.

Leanne Manas of SABC2's Morning Live fame, JC Engelbrecht the weatherman on the same channel, Meshack Mavuso, who plays the mine manager in Isidingo, and Ingrid Paulus of 7de Laan will take part in the dance off.

The show, which runs for an hour and a half, will again be hosted by Ian von Memerty and Sandy Ngema.

And judges Lilian Phororo, Dave Campbell, Tyrone Watkins and Salome Sechele will also return to point out which steps are done with skill, and which couple really shouldn't be dancing.

The winner will be determined by the judges' votes (50percent) and those of the studio audience (50percent) at the end of the show.

Dances to look forward to: Manas and Marcel Vilonel (tango and cha cha); Ingrid Paulus and Grant Esterhuizen (quickstep and paso); JC Engelbrecht and Hayley Bennett (waltz and samba); Mavuso and Robynn Soules (foxtrot and jive).
