Amajita enhanced their chances of advancing to the semifinals of the Metropolitan Cosafa Youth Championship with a 2-0 win over Zambia at De Beers Stadium yesterday.

Masibusane Zongo's curving shot gave the South African Under-20 side the lead in the second minute and Mandla Masongo made it 2-0 in the 62nd minute.

The young Chipolopolo should have wrapped up the match in the first stanza but poor finishing by Migel Zulu and Morgan Kaoma let them down.

Phumelele Bhengu and Thulane Serero squandered numerous opportunities.

Amajita coach Serame Letsoaka was forced to replace the injured Bhengu with George Maluleke, who failed to increase the margin with his first touch with only 'keeper William Chabale to beat, but shot wide.

Kamohelo Mokotjo frustrated Zambia in the middle of the park when he kept playmaker Nathan Sinkala out of play.

Masango increased the lead after receiving a telling pass from Maluleke.

The South Africans lead Group A with six points from two matches with six goals without conceding after winning their first game 4-0 over Lesotho.

Zambia were reduced to 10 men after Saint Nkhoma was sent for an early shower in the 81st minute for foul play.

Amajita will need a draw against Seychelles to qualify for the semis on Friday.

The teams will rest today ahead of tomorrow's last leg of preliminary matches, after which all the four groups will play in the knockout system on Friday.

Other results

Angola 6, Namibia 1; Zimbabwe 0, Malawi 0
