Jimmy Tau must be applauded for his dedication to furthering his studies.

Tau is a role model to young athletes who dream of emulating him. Most players, some of whom did not even complete matric, are complacent and are not positioning themselves for a sustainable life beyond professional football. This must be discouraged.

Stories about players taking study leave are rare in the soccer fraternity.

I would like to encourage the soccer reporters to deliberately research and give us stories of the soccer players who are continuing their studies. I doubt if Tau is the only PSL player who balances kicking the ball for a living with sitting behind the desk.

Reporting on this could help prevent current and future players from facing a tough life when they can no longer make a living by kicking a soccer ball.
