Soweto police opened fire on occupants of a suspicious-looking vehicle, killing one of them, yesterday morning.

According to police spokesman Superintendent Lungelo Dlamini, police were patrolling when they came across a vehicle with tinted windows.

"They ordered the driver to stop but occupants of the car started firing at police and they were chased from Kagiso to Dobsonville," said Dlamini.

One suspect was killed when he tried to flee from the vehicle when it stopped.

Another suspect was arrested and three escaped.

"We have not linked them to any crime, but we are investigating," he said.
