Bonginkosi Sibeko has been appointed ward councillor of ward 4 in Ermelo, Mpumalanga, to replace the late Webster Makhubu.
Sibeko was yesterday elected unopposed in the by-election that was supposed to have taken place on Wednesday next week.
The nomination of candidates was officially closed last Tuesday, and when the cut-off date and time for the submission of nominations had lapsed, only Sibeko was registered.
Sibeko has more than 10 years experience as a councillor, having served as deputy mayor of the Ermelo transitional local council and as the speaker in the Msukaligwa municipality between 2000 and 2006.
