After a complete disaster last year the Mangaung Arts and Culture Festival (Macufe) is back - hoping for a better event.
The annual festival, which takes place in Bloemfontein for nine days, features the arts, music, theatre and dance. Macufe starts today and runs until October 12.
The event starts with the Macufe Youth Concert tonight at the Rose Garden, featuring Maxwell, Mxo, Jub-Jub, HHP, Mashelengm Khaya, Kelly Khumalo and Chomee, among others.
Tomorrow, there will be an opening parade from 8am to 11am in the Mangaung streets. Later in the afternoon a Gospel Concert will take place at the Loch Logan Rose Gardens. The line-up includes Joyous Celebration, Benjamin Dube, Paul Lechalaba, Rebecca Malope, Lesego, Sechaba and Keke.
Angelique Kidjo will lead the line-up in the Divas Concert at the Sand du Plessis Theatre. Kidjo will share the stage with Judith Sephuma, Siphokazi and Hope.
Visual artists' work will also be on display in Markgraaf and Elizabeth streets. Old-school musicians such as Yvonne Chaka-Chaka, Dalom Kids, Sipho "Hotstix" Mabuse, William Mthethwa, Senyaka, Steve Kekana, Splash, Patricia Majalisa, MaChiccos, Zizi Kongo and Pat Shange will be at Loch Logan Island on Sunday.
On October 9 music lovers can look forward to another exciting music concert. The Macufe Ons Konsert will take place at the Sand du Plessis Theatre. Artists expected to perform are Vusi Mahlasela, Coenie de Villiers, Gloria Bosman, Sbongile Mgoma, Kurt Darren, Frank Opperman, Jak de Priester, Lukas Maree, Lize Beekman, Anton Goosen and Nick Taylor.
The Indoor Jazz happens at the Sand du Plessis the following day . The event will feature Jonathan Butler, Kirk Whalum, Morena Moledi, Ernie Smith and Budhaza.
The big event, the Macufe Music Festival, will take place at the Loch Logan Rose Garden on October 11.
It features Jonathan Butler, Kirk Whalum, Oletta Adams, Thandiswa Mazwai, Mzwake Mbuli, Jaziel Brothers, Maru, Siphokazi and Lira.
The event will be wrapped up with a huge soccer match.
