We should have seen it coming but South Africa clearly took its eye off the ball.

We should have seen it coming but South Africa clearly took its eye off the ball.

Fifa president Sepp Blatter threw a fit after visiting Elis Park Stadium in Joburg this week and seeing no banners trumpeting the soccer World Cup in 2010.

Soccer's top dog wasted no time in advising the local organising committee to get its flacks on the hustings to create a buzz for the games - as South Korea and Germany had for the previous cups.

South Africa has been so involved with the blood sport of local politics since Polokwane that we have let this matter slip under the radar.

Blatter's right. Danny Jordaan, Irvin Khoza and Safa need to keep their minds focused and start punting the cup as furiously as they can.
