The family of a Limpopo businessman is reeling in shock after their breadwinner was shot and killed in his car in Unit A Giyani at the weekend.

Hassani Amos Mhlanga was shot while parking his car in the garage on Sunday morning.

Mhlanga, 48, is a well-known taxi and bus operator in Mopani. He started his business in Giyani two decades ago.

Police spokesman Moatshe Ngoepe said: "He was shot several times in the head, chest, legs and hands and died on the scene.

"The motive for the killing has not yet been established and our investigations are continuing."

Mhlanga's son, Nyiko, said he was woken up by people who take care of his father's cattle on Sunday morning telling him about the incident.

"When I went into the garage, I found the lifeless body of my father in a pool of blood in the front seat of his car," he said.

Mhlanga's sister, Mavis Mafumu, said the family suspected Mhlanga was killed by rivals in the taxi industry.

He is survived by eight children from his previous marriage.
