The future looks bright for 23 students from the Modjadji area in Limpopo, who have been selected for training for various careers in the South African Navy next year.

The students have made it through the selection process conducted by the navy in Polokwane recently.

They will spend some time at Simon's Town, near Cape Town, as part of their field of training.

The aim of the training is to assist Modjadji regent Mpapatla Modjadji in his bid to see many people in his area educated and taking part in the mainstream economy.

The South African Navy named one of its biggest ships after Queen Mokope Modjadji V earlier this year.

The chairman of the newly established Modjadji Royal Council bursary scheme, Bassie Modjadji, said the students were selected from a group of 35 students who had passed matric last year.

He said more students will be recruited for the scheme, and urged young people who have passed Grade 12 to apply for the bursary.
