One of the soccer greats of yesteryear, Patrick "Ace" Ntsoelengoe, will be honoured posthumously through a golf event at the Krugersdorp Country Club tomorrow.

Ntsoelengoe was a pillar of strength for Kaizer Chiefs and the most feared and respected football player in the 1970s and 1980s.

Mogale City Mayor Koketso Seerane said the Mogale City Local Municipality, the Patrick Ace Ntsoelengoe Foundation and the Krugersdorp District Education Department are happy to present the second yearly Ace Ntsoelengoe Golf Day.

"Money generated from this event will be channelled to the foundation named after him.

"All of us have a responsibility to pay tribute and honour our icons. Ntsoelengoe is not only a national icon but an international one," Seerane said.

"The tribute paid to him through the induction to the American Football Hall of Fame is testimony to the fact that whereas entities outside our country have honoured this legend, South Africa has not done enough. We think that these activities afford us that opportunity."

Ntsoelengoe's widow, Thato, said her wish was to fulfill her late husband's dream of developing and unearthing youngsters from the streets.

"Few youngsters in the townships are playing golf and we would like to to see a number of these children playing the game in the near future," she said.

The idea also is to create a networking environment for the legends, business and community leaders.

Tee-off time is at 9am and there will be a gala dinner after the game. Green fee is R5000 for a four-ball entry. For more information call Kabo Langa at 072-340-5444.
