A frightened herd boy ran to call police when he stumbled on two decomposing bodies in the veld near Imbali township, Pietermaritzburg, at the weekend.
The police identified the bodies as those of Samukelisiwe Nzama and her boyfriend, Constable Brightman Mnguni, 26 .
Mnguni's 9mm pistol was found at the scene.
In another gruesome death, a widow, 83, walked in front of a train at Park Rynie on the South Coast and was killed instantly .
Police spokesman Vincent Pandarum said: "The deceased had mentioned to the family earlier in the day that she would walk in front of a train. But she was not taken seriously."
Meanwhile, the Pietermaritzburg woman who allegedly ran over 10 children and killed a toddler at her creche will know her fate soon.
The woman was trying to move her husband's car when the accident occurred.
Police cannot say whether the woman, who does not have a driver's licence, will be arrested but they confirmed that the informal creche has been closed down.
Police spokesman Hendry Budram yesterday said police expected to make a final decision this week. - Sowetan Reporters
