The National First Division (NFD) will continue to operate in two streams in the new season after the Premier Soccer League (PSL's) executive committee resolved the imbalances in the Inland and Coastal streams yesterday.
The two streams now have eight teams each after Inland Stream clubs African Warriors and Carara Kicks were drafted into the Coastal Stream. But the move is likely to be condemned by some NFD club officials who were pushing for a single stream.
The complexities in the NFD were caused by the relegation of Jomo Cosmos and Black Leopards from the Absa Premiership and this resulted in the Inland Stream having 10 clubs.
There were six clubs in the Coastal Stream before yesterday following the promotion of Maritzburg United and Bay United.
"We are glad that the matter has now been resolved and all the teams can now focus on their preparations for the new season," Irvin Khoza, PSL's chairman, said yesterday.
The 2008-2009 NFD season kicks off next month.
