South African marathoner Norman Dlomo has decided to take his preparations for the Beijing Olympics to Thabazimbi because of hot temperatures in the Limpopo mining area.

"It will be very hot in Beijing and I'm trying to prepare myself by training under hot weather conditions in Thabazimbi," said Dlomo.

"Though I can't compare the temperatures here with that in Beijing, I think it is good for me to train where it is also hot. I decided to move from Vaal to here because of this reason."

The 33-year-old, who runs under the colours of Lekoa Athletics Club, said the fact that he will compete against the word's best in the Olympics has motivated him.

"Some people believe I'm nervous because it will be the first time I'll be competing in the Olympics but this not the case. It is every athlete's wish to represent his or her country on the big stage like the Olympics and I'm highly motivated to have qualified for Beijing."

Dlomo added that it was good for him to compete in the IAAF World Championships in Osaka last year to get a good feeling for the heat in Asia.

He disappointed in Osaka because his preparations were hampered by a knee injury.
