Limpopo police at Seshego near Polokwane have launched a manhunt for a group of about 10 men after two hijacking incidents at Chebeng and Mashashane villages at the weekend.

In the first incident the suspects confronted the driver of a Toyota bakkie who was driving along Chebeng village on Saturday night.

They threatened to stab him to death if he did not hand over the car keys to them.

The driver, who was driving under the influence of alcohol, handed the keys over to the suspects, who then drove away in his vehicle.

The bakkie was later found abandoned at Mashashane village, a few kilometres from the Mashashane royal kraal, allegedly after it ran out of petrol.

South African Police Service spokesman in Seshego, Sergeant Mothemane Malefo, said the suspects later confronted another driver.

They seriously assaulted and left him for dead while escaping with his vehicle.

The victim was admitted to a local hospital in a coma .

According to Malefo the suspects, all armed with knives, are believed to be the ones who are terrorising communities in the Seshego and Moletjie areas.

"We could not link the suspects with a vehicle hijacking syndicate," Malefo said.

"But obviously the police will have to wait for the victim to come out of his coma to tell them what exactly the suspects were looking for before they will know what hijackers' motive was."

No one else has been injured but the police appeal to anyone who has information that might lead to the arrest of the suspects to contact them.
