Relegated Jomo Cosmos yesterday released five long-serving players while also preparing to face two others at the league's Dispute Resolution Chambers (DRC) in a contractual battle.

Ezenkosi boss and head coach Jomo Sono said those who have been issued with their clearances are former captain Sam Magalefa, Sipho "Spaghetti" Sephadi, Innocent Ntsume, Lucky "LaCoste" Mhlathe and reserve goalkeeper Ricky de Villiers.

The four midfielders have all served Cosmos for more than six years with Mhlathe being in his 11th year as a professional. He is a product of the club's development programme.

De Villiers is said to have been seen on the Kaizer Chiefs bench during the Mpumalanga Premier's Cup tournament in Witbank on Sunday.

Those that are going to be met head-on at the DRC are mercurial winger Dikgang "Terminator" Mabalane, who is said to be heading for Brondby FI in Denmark, and defender Morgan Gould who has signed for SuperSport United.

Cosmos say the duo are still under contract with the club.

"Mabalane has a contract until 2010 and even took out a substantial amount from the club to that effect. I should have listened to the people who warned me about taking him back from SuperSport.

"He has served us with a letter from his lawyer taking us to the DRC as he claims his contract is over, which is not true. People like him need to be taught a lesson," said a fuming Sono.

"After we win this case, which we will, we will make an example out of him and put him on the bench for two years until the contract is over.

"I will pay him even if he sits at home for two years."

Gould is also in the same situation and Cosmos are to contest his assertion that he is a free agent.

But Sono's attitude changed when he spoke about the other five players whom he wished well and thanked for being faithful to the club over the years they have been there.

He said: "Unfortunately in life there comes a time to part with someone who's been very close to you and it's sad.

"However, we are building a new era with young kids and there is no space for them.

"We wish them the best at whichever team they may join. These boys are disciplined."
