A Limpopo ANC regional conference is being threatened by in-fighting over candidates.
Some ANC big-wigs in Limpopo have already branded the conference a "flop" and called for it to be postponed.
Hundreds of card-carrying members marched in protest against the in-fighting in the party on Friday. Eight, including municipal councillor and Letaba sub-regional secretary, Jeffrey Senyolo were arrested.
The forthcoming ANC conference in Limpopo in July is clouded in controversy, with violent disruptions and in-fighting the order of the day.
Since the nomination process started early this month, a sizeable number of branch general meetings (BGM) were postponed after the nominations were disrupted by those who wanted provincial secretary Cassel Mathale, and those who favoured chairman and Premier Sello Moloto, pictured, to be nominated as chairman of the party.
One such example saw a ward councillor and his two sons arrested for allegedly assaulting marshals during a branch general meeting in Sekororo, outside Tzaneen early this month. The BGM in Braam Fischer branch in the greater Tzaneen sub-region could not go ahead because of tensions among the leaders.
A member of the PEC and a candidate for nomination, Makoma Makhurupetsi, was involved in a scuffle over an attendance register at a BGM two weeks ago.
Benny Boshielo, provincial spokesman for the ANC in Limpopo, confirmed that in-fighting and disruptions were rampant in 15 branches since the nomination process started. He said most of the hot-spots in the province were in Chikoto Tshikota and Mopani and some of the areas in Waterburg and Capricorn regions.
