Nehawu (National Education, Health and Allied Workers Union), one of the biggest public sector unions, has reversed its rejection of the government's 10,5percent pay increase.
Stuart Marshall, head of the union's organising section, said yesterday that the union had decided to accept the raise.
"We're sending a communication to the minister that we're accepting the 10,5percent," he said, adding that there had been "a lot of arguments" about the issue.
Nehawu and Sadtu (South African Democratic Teachers Union) said last week they rejected the increase because it was based on a projected inflation figure that was too low.
Public Services Minister Geraldine Fraser-Moleketi said the increase was in line with the agreement signed with the unions after last year's protracted strike.
