New Orlando Pirates coach Rudolf Josef Krol did not beat about the bush when he declared that Bucs will soon be back to where they rightfully belong - in the upper echelons of the league.

The forthright Dutch soccer legend has signed a three-year contract with the glory-seeking Buccaneers, starting next season.

He replaces Owen da Gama who asked Pirates chairman Irvin Khoza last week to release him from the remaining two years of his three-year contract.

Krol did not wait for chairman Irvin Khoza to talk about the mandate.

"It feels very nice to be here in South Africa, I like the country.

"Orlando Pirates are one of the big clubs in South Africa," said Krol.

"I know that last season they did not perform that well, which gives me a chance to put up a 200 percent effort of my experience to get where they rightfully belong.

"The most important thing is teamwork. Football is so complicated. It has become so big that we all have to work together."

Khoza said: "We are naturally delighted to have appointed a highly experienced coach in Rudolf who has massive international coaching expertise.

"Rudolf is also familiar with African soccer; the man speaks four foreign languages: English, German, Italian and French.

"The coach arrived in South Africa on Tuesday with his wife to look for place for their children to further their studies here.

"He will meet the entire team when they return for pre-season training on June 25," said Khoza.

Some of Krol's achievement include winning the Swiss First Division League with Club Servett in 1990, winning gold at the All Africa Games in Zimbabwe with Egypt, reaching the quarterfinals of the 1996 Africa Cup of Nations in Johannesburg with the Pharaohs and clinching the Afro-Asian Championship with Zamalek in 1998.

Krol has also worked as assistant coach of Holland's national team under Frank Rijkaard.

The former Ajax Amsterdam stalwart has represented the Netherlands 83 times and captained the team 55 times.

He was a member of the teams that won World Cup silver medals in 1974 and 1978.
