In yet another xenophobic attack on foreign nationals in Ekurhuleni, a woman was allegedly raped by 11 men at Mandleni informal settlement, near Wattville on Saturday night.

Actonville police spokesman Godin Nyathi said also in the same area, a non-South African man was hacked with an axe.

Nyathi added that nine men believed to be Mozambicans came under attack from a mob suspected to have come from the local hostel.

"On Saturday night police on patrol at the nearby Spoornet settlement arrested two men after they had broken into a house and stole goods.

"They were apprehended with some of the items. When police confronted them, they dropped a TV that they had just removed from the house," Nyathi said.

The attacks on foreign nationals in Actonville come shortly after similar incidents in Thokoza and Thembisa, also in Ekurhuleni.

According to Nyathi, the situation in the area remained calm but tense.

Meanwhile, yesterday in Daveyton a group of hostel dwellers attacked people from other countries.

Similar attacks were also reported in Zenzele informal settlement.

Yesterday morning in Ward 71 seven shacks were attacked by unknown people, a local councillor told Sowetan.

During a public meeting held at Marivate Park, local organisations, including the ANC, Cosatu, Sanco, and attended by more than 1000 people, called for calm and restraint among local residents and foreigners.
