Kimberley in Northern Cape will come alive on Sunday when some of the country's leading DJs, headed by Vinny da Vinci, will be there to shake up the town.

In what promises to be a cracker of an event, other leading DJs, besides Vinny da Vinci, include DJs Miggs, KG Smallz, Ronsad and Mavusana.

The show will be held at the Kimberley West End Club.

"My sets will be an eclectic journey into the depths of house music, incorporating the sound of the renowned Deep Soul Sessions. Keeping it deep always," Vinny da Vinci says.

He is one of the most important figures on the South African music scene. He has helped galvanise deep club culture in his various capacities - as a partner in the inimitable House Afrika emporium and executive producer of many of their top-selling compilations, including the House Afrika , Deep House Sounds and Africanism series, which he has mixed, and as a producer with DJ Christos in the ground-breaking DJs At Work .

Vinny is in his early 30s and was raised in a musically inclined family in Mabopane, Pretoria.

He got the feel for compiling while preparing tapes to play at house parties and school functions. These wereengineered in a cut-and-paste manner since he had no mixer.

His DJing career took a backseat after he matriculated and had to work in a clothing store to pay the rent. But he developed an even keener interest in deejaying at a club called Ship Ahoy in the late eighties.

Vinny began investing in vinyl after watching a friend blend records on a pair of Technics turntables. His break came when the resident of another Mabopane club, Cherry's, failed to pitch and Vinny was asked to stand in.

He impressed the promoters, landed a residency and soon became a full-time DJ.
