Correctional Services said that “matters are under control” at Johannesburg’s Sun City Prison on Wed.
About 5000 union members took to the streets of Johannesburg yesterday to protest against the rising price of food, fuel and electricity.
Before the march Cosatu acting president Sdumo Dlamini said the protest would send out a message that the cost of living was too high.
"An ordinary person can no longer survive," Dlamini said. "Basic food has to be affordable for everyone and the poor and unemployed in particular."
The march started in President Street in Johannesburg's city centre and was expected to continue to Eskom in Smit Street in Braamfontein and on to Pick 'n Pay. Memo- randums were to be handed over at both stops. - Sapa
