The future of the 17 suspended students at Mangosuthu University of Technology in Durban remains uncertain after waiting more than a month without being called before any disciplinary hearing.
The students were ejected from the university's campus following a two-week long strike over the lack of resources, transportation and not enough lecturers.
The suspended students are members the South African Democratic Students Movement (Sadesmo), which is aligned to the IFP.
They include the president and treasurer of the students representative council (SRC).
The other eight suspended students are general members of Sadesmo. They are all accused of perpetrating violence and causing damage to property during the strike.
The students said they were still concerned about the manner in which the university management handled their suspensions.
They claimed that management did not handle the matter in accordance with university policy.
"According to the university's policy, a suspended student, subjected to a disciplinary hearing, is supposed to appear before the disciplinary hearing within eight days," said a student.
The students said they had already lost more than a month of study. They said those doing semester courses would have lost the whole semester by the end of the month.
"What will the university do to repay us for the lost time should we be found innocent," said a student.
Only three members are running the SRC office to handle the affairs of thousands of students..
University spokesman Sanele Zondi said yesterday he could not comment on why the students had not been called before a disciplinary hearing.
"I'm not prepared to comment on that. It is an internal matter between the university and the suspended students and cannot be discussed in the media," he said.
