Police are looking for at least 15 robbers from three gangs after they struck at three different places in Durban within hours at the weekend.

Police are looking for at least 15 robbers from three gangs after they struck at three different places in Durban within hours at the weekend.

The first incident took place at a home in Kloof on Sunday.

Police spokesman Inspector Solomon Mbhele said yesterday security officers responded to an activated alarm. When they arrived at the scene the robbers were seen fleeing with household goods.

"A shootout ensued but the robbers managed to get away in a white Honda Ballade."

None of the officers were injured. Mbhele said police were looking for at least four men in connection with the robbery.

Four hours later a second robbery took place at a bed store in Umbilo, Durban.

Police Inspector Michael Read said one gunman entered the store and held up the manager at gunpoint before fleeing with R10000 in cash.

Then, at 8.20pm, a 10-man armed gang stormed Shoprite Checkers in the nearby Berea centre, and fled with a large amount of money on foot. - Mitchell Harper
