Judge Zweledinga Sabbath Peko, acting deputy judge president of the Transkei division of the high court, died after a long illness, his family said yesterday.
Peko, who died at the age of 66, was born in the village of Mkhankatho in Libode and matriculated at Healdtown in 1964.
He graduated from the University of South Africa in 1982 and spent 27 years as a magistrate presiding over criminal cases. He also served as a member of the White Commission into irregular salary increases to civil servants.
He became an acting judge of the Durban high court between 1998 and 1999.
Peko is survived by his wife and children. His funeral will be held at Mkhankatho village on Saturday. - Sapa
