I would like to differ with Gift Ziya's analysis (Sowetan, February 5) that Bafana needs white players . Why must we mention colour when talking about good or bad players. We had Bradley Carnell who was just dropped by Bafana recently, we have Rowen Fernandez so what is Ziya on about?
Which history is he referring to - does he only remember white players?
What about Samuel "Happy-Cow" Nkomo, Thomas Hlongwane and Fani Madida, to mention but a few. They were certainly not white but could score goals in the air. Why is he using colour to judge the prowess of any sportsman?
He also insults the so-called "white players" by saying they do the dirty work. Is he implying they lack talent? Please don't polarise our soccer along racial lines.
