A Mpumalanga mental patient allegedly murdered his grandmother and is expected to appear in a local court soon on a charge of murder.
The suspect, aged between 18 and 20, allegedly killed his 76-year-old grandmother on Monday night at Block B, near Komatipoort.
The deceased, from Dludluma Trust, was on a visit to her grandchildren when the incident took place.
Police said the suspect allegedly banged his grandmother's head against the wall, throttled, punched and kicked her until she died, while the rest of the family were fast asleep.
Tonga police spokesman Constable Mzwandile Nyambi said police found the victim lying in a pool of blood. - Given Mahlalela
