Why is there so much noise about Thabo Mbeki being re-elected as the president of the ANC? He has only served the organisation as president for ten years.
Comrade Oliver Tambo was president of the ANC for 24 years, from 1967 up to 1991. Chief Albert Luthuli was president for 15 years, from 1952 up to 1967.
If Mbeki is re-elected as the organisation's president, he would have served the ANC as its president for 15 years, which is exactly how long Luthuli served the organisation.
Mbeki can only break Tambo's record if he stays on until 2022. So what's the problem?
