ANC regions in KwaZulu-Natal have overwhelmingly endorsed Jacob Zuma for the position of party president .

In a move that political analyst, Somadoda Fikeni described as "not surprising", delegates from 11 regions who attended a regional general council at the weekend, endorsed Zuma to lead the ANC at the end of the party's elective national conference in Limpopo next month.

The regions also endorsed the Cosatu and ANC Youth League's lists consisting of Kgalema Motlanthe for deputy president; Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, national chairman; Gwede Mantashe, general secretary; Baleka Mbete, deputy general secretary; and Mathews Phosa as treasurer.

l While the Eastern Cape has not yet finalised its nomination process, the province is known to support President Thabo Mbeki.

Already 28 branches of the 29 at Nelson Mandela Bay region have endorsed Mbeki.

One of the branches, Ward 58 in Motherwell chose Kgalema Motlanthe as president.
