The Grade 11 mother who allegedly drowned her newborn twins in a school toilet last week may still be arrested and charged with two counts of murder.
The twins, a boy and a girl, were allegedly thrown into the toilet at Senthibele Secondary School in Soshanguve, Pretoria.
The 19-year-old pupil was apparently helped by her classmates to deliver the twins before suffocating them in the gushing toilet water.
The mother, a twin herself, was admitted to the Dr George Mukhari Hospital in Ga-Rankuwa on the day of the incident.
She was only discharged from hospital on Monday.
Hospital spokesman Nolonwabo Bashe confirmed the pupil had been admitted to the hospital, but refused to disclose details of her treatment.
Tshwane police spokesman Captain Lucas Sithole said a docket would be sent to the senior state prosecutor as soon as all the statements had been taken.
"This is our starting point. Statements will also be taken from the other two schoolgirls who allegedly helped her give birth and drown the babies.
"Any action that will be taken against them will be based on the outcome of the investigations," said Sithole.
Sithole said police should have been called in before babies were allegedly removed from the toilet by one of the teachers.
