It does not take City Power seven working days to repair faulty street lights, as the company claims.
I came to this conclusion after drawing City Power's attention to several faulty streetlights in my area on August 23.
It has been more than a month since I reported the matter and nothing has been done about it.
When I enquired after seven days, I was told that my complaint had been forwarded to the manager/supervisor in charge of maintaining street lights in my area.
In the past, City Power had promptly attended to queries within seven working days.
When I first reported the matter, I was given a reference number to quote.
I have been calling regularly since the seven-day deadline expired and was told that there was a huge backlog of street lights elsewhere in the vast township.
During one of the calls, I was given the contact number of an official in charge of my vicinity. Unfortunately, getting the official to explain the delay was not easy.
I finally traced Piet Sonnekus, whom I was told was in charge of my area. After explaining myself, Sonnekus said my area was not under his jurisdiction. He promised to pass on the information to the "right" person, Wilhelmina Hlabane.
I called again on September 25 just to be told the matter was receiving attention.
