"I don't think he will ever accept me as his son even though I am," said Nhlamulo Shilowa, 19, after a DNA test proved that Gauteng Premier Mbhazima Shilowa was his father.

Nhlamulo, pictured, also said he would not force his father to love him.

The long-awaited DNA test results were released on Friday and, although Nhlamulo always believed his mother that Shilowa was his father, he was excited when the test came back positive.

Nhlamulo is Shilowa's second son from his customary wife Caroline Rikhotso. Their eldest son, Marvin, is 24.

Shilowa's sons took him to court in May for maintenance. The premier initially denied that Nhlamulo was his.

Yesterday, family spokesman Phineas Shilowa said: "This is a family matter and I will not discuss it. We will resolve the matter in the family."

He said the family had also decided to pay Marvin's tuition fees. Marvin lived with Shilowa in Johannesburg, and until last year he paid his fees at the University of Limpopo.

Their relationship reportedly soured when Marvin failed his exams and enquired about his younger brother.

"Marvin will be going back to university next year," Phineas Shilowa said.

Nhlamulo said: "I am happy and relieved that the results came out positive. He instructed the attorney to arrange a meeting with me (next week). I don't know what to expect but I hope everything will go well."

Nhlamulo was raised by his mother in Giyani, Limpopo. He matriculated in 2005 and wants Shilowa to pay for his tertiary education because his mother cannot not afford to.

"I just want him to take care of me and help me further my studies," he said.
