Dr Habibu Sadauki, a coordinator for PACN, said complicated cases of abortion had claimed 22000 lives in Nigeria last year.
Sadauki said unsafe abortions mostly performed by quacks were on the rise and were responsible for 40percent of maternal deaths in the country.
"Unsafe abortions are a social problem. There is a need for enlightenment on the issue," he said. - Sapa-DPA
