Police have arrested two suspects who allegedly fired the shot that struck six-year-old Zinhle Ngidi of KwaMashu in the head on Sunday.

Investigations revealed that the two suspects were allegedly involved in a high-speed chase and the shooting of a motorist.

The men, aged between 30 and 33, apparently fired two shots at the driver of a sedan, Sibusiso Ngobese, after an argument.

Police spokesman Muzi Mngomezulu said Zinhle was shot at the same time as the chase.

She is still fighting for her life at Inkosi Albert Luthuli Hospital near Durban.

Mngomezulu said the suspects had been driving a microbus that fitted the description given by Ngobese.

He said police were investigating two counts of attempted murder against the suspects, who will appear in court soon.

"The bullet removed from Zinhle's head would determine if it came from the same firearm that shot at Ngobese," he said.
