Amstel back in July

Staff Reporter

Staff Reporter

Amstel Lager's new South African agent Brandhouse Beverages said the beer will be back next month. Amstel disappeared from pubs and bottle stores three months ago after its parent company Heineken ended South African Breweries' licence after the two global brewers clashed in South America.

Brandhouse, a local joint venture by Heineken, Diageo and Namibia Breweries, seems to have dallied in adding Amstel to its existing range while SAB rushed to convert Amstel drinkers to its replacement brand Hansa Marzen Gold.

Brandhouse managing director Simon Litherland said the head start Brandhouse had given SAB's Hansa Marzen Gold was unavoidable.
