Police in Port Elizabeth are still searching for a schoolboy who allegedly terrorised and robbed his schoolmates at gunpoint and threatened a teacher last week.

Police spokesman Captain Verna Brink said yesterday that the 16-year-old boy allegedly robbed other pupils of jewellery, money and cellphones at Thembelihle High School, in New Brighton, on Tuesday and Wednesday last week.

"He is wanted in a murder case and has been terrorising the pupils at the school. It is also alleged that he attempted to rape a pupil," Brink said.

She said the boy was on the run from the police, and was armed and considered dangerous.

"We warn members of the public not to approach the suspect but to give any information about his whereabouts to the nearest police station," said Brink.

The Congress of South African Students (Cosas) in Eastern Cape said it would not support a pupil who broke the law.

"This is totally unacceptable. Any pupil who carries weapons such as guns or knives should be expelled," Cosas provincial chairman Xolani Witbooi said.

Witbooi said Cosas would order its regional executive committee in the Nelson Mandela Bay region to investigate the allegations.
